Hello all,  I have been working in Workfront for 6 years now, and am nearly done an implementation with my new company. While working with the implementation team I had some suggestions that they highly recommended putting into the Idea Exchange and then promoting it because they thought they were good ideas. So, here is me promoting it! Please take a look at some of my ideas and their links below. Let's get some votes!!  Getting Custom Fields to the Outlook Plugin (Add to work section) I would like it if we could add fields to the outlook plugin when trying to use the "Add to Work" feature. For example, if we wanted to automatically add a customized reminder ...

Did you know that you can use date-based wildcards to dynamically filter dates and times in your reports? Wildcards are useful for rolling time periods, such as dates happening this month or looking ahead a few weeks.  There are two Workfront wildcards for dates—$$TODAY and $$NOW. Make sure to type them with the two dollar signs and all capital letters (or they won’t work). $$NOW refers to the day AND time at the moment that you load a report using this wildcard. This wildcard works best with Greater Than and Less Than qualifiers.  $$TODAY refers to the current day (starting at midnight), but not the time. This works well with general timeframes ...

If you’re like most creative teams , you lack the time to focus on your core job: being creative. According to research, workers like you only dedicate 40% of their day to the job they were hired to do. The rest of the time? Meetings, requests, lengthy review and approval processes, rework, and burning the midnight oil suck up any remaining energy in an effort to hit deadlines. There’s little time left to produce the impactful, creative work you’re known for. Join Jackie Schaffer, VP at Cella, and Brent Bird, Director of Integrated Marketing at Workfront , for an insightful webinar as they review key takeaways from the 2019 In-House Creative Industry ...

Did you know? You can use column rules (or conditional formatting) to add emphasis to individual fields, and even entire rows, on a report? Conditional formatting can be used to call attention to specific information on a report. For example, you could highlight numbers in a budget column in red when costs are running high. Or you could highlight projects that are in the Planned or Current statuses in different colors to help you track work in progress. For this example, we have a task report that looks at all of the open tasks assigned to our team. We need to quickly see which of these didn’t get completed by their due dates—in other words, ...

Did you know that you can use conditional formatting on a View to compare two date fields? Before you start, just a bit of review. Conditional formatting allows you to customize how information displays on a report. You can make information stand out by making the text bold or highlighting a field. The formatting is set up as part of the View. (For more information, see Using conditional formatting in Views .) You can use conditional formatting for a variety of things—for example, making a task appear in red when the progress status is late or highlighting in gray all of the project planned completion dates that fall in the current quarter. ...

Report prompts are open filters that can be customized and applied differently each time you run a report. Prompts give flexibility to reports, allowing you to tweak certain criteria without having to create a whole new report. Many report writers use prompts that relate to completion dates, status, and users.  For example, you have a report that looks at all of the active projects in the Marketing portfolio with planned completion dates of this quarter. This is a report you use frequently. You’re showing this report in a meeting, and one of the executives wants to know how many of these projects are running late. The director of the project manager ...

This week we're bringing attention to two new features within the Product: Extended 'what-if' planning functionality, released with 19.2 at the end of May; and a brand new tooltip indicating planned PTO. When making a task or issue assignment, our new 'tooltip' indicates if someone has marked time off in Workfront during the planned dates of the work.  For those unfamiliar with the term 'tooltip,' this a message that appears when a cursor is positioned over an icon, image, hyperlink, etc. in a graphical user interface. Note, this new feature was built in response to an Idea Exchange request!  Resource availability ...

Did you know? You can make a collection of reports using a dashboard, and then make that dashboard easy to access with a custom tab. One way to get visibility into information in Workfront is with reports. But oftentimes, getting to those reports involves a lot of clicking around.  Dashboards and custom tabs bring all the information you need to the forefront so you see everything you need right when you log in.   Let’s start with the dashboard. A dashboard is a collection of reports that can be viewed in one window. Dashboards can group “like” reports together -- such as a series of reports showing the status of tasks and the projects ...

Did you know? You can change ID numbers to names in reports. Have you ever created a report only to find that one of the columns is displaying what appears to be nonsense information instead of the data you expected? Just a few edits will get both of those columns switched so they display names instead. This week's Workfront Wednesday walks you through these steps, in the context of a project report. Let's walk through this together in a Project Report: Starting ...
